GSM/GPRS

bglobal aims to be at the forefront of telecommunications technology in the UK Advanced Metering market. Currently utilising GSM or GPRS systems to connect with smartMETER's, we will continue to evolve to keep up-to-date with industry standard technologies such as 3G and WiFi.

GSM
Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is the current technology used by bglobal as the platform for our telecommunications network. GSM allows data to be sent and received across a mobile telephone network at rates of up to 96 kilobits per second (kbps).

GPRS
The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new technology that allows information to be quickly sent and received across a mobile telephone network.  Theoretical maximum speeds of up to 171.2 kbps are achievable with GPRS, allowing information to be transmitted more quickly and efficiently across the mobile network than with GPS.  GPRS facilitates instant connections whereby information can be sent or received immediately as the need arises - no dial-up modem connection is necessary. This is why GPRS users are sometimes referred to be as being "always connected". High immediacy is one of the advantages of GPRS when compared to GSM which is a very important feature for bglobal, as it will allow the data centre to capture data on a customer's electricity usage immediately and accurately.
