Smart metering has been on the horizon for a number of years - since deregulation of the energy market - and has become ever more topical as the UK market has been hit by a number of energy price hikes, poor energy billing and pressure from the Green Lobby for all consumers to reduce carbon emissions.

bglobal officially launched in late 2004 and was initially tasked with building an infrastructure to provide a full end to end service for smart metering. It soon became clear that to fulfil the opportunity, bglobal would have to operate as a DC/DA (data collector and data aggregator) and a MOP (meter operator) to have any chance of breaking into the tight network that exists in the metering sector. Energy Industry accreditation was required for both, which has now been secured.

This has enabled bglobal to position itself as not just a supplier of smart meters at affordable prices, but also providers of a total end-to-end solution - i.e. a company that supplies, installs, reads and operates smart meters and supplies customers' energy management software.
